Spanish Colonial Style Mahogany Queen Bed

Spanish Colonial Style Queen Size Bed Created by Peruvian Artisans in Mahogany

Spanish Colonial Style Mahogany Queen Bed
Proper reproduction of an antique Spanish Colonial Queen bed, made from solid mahogany, in an American Queen size. The Spanish Colonial style Queen style bed was hand carved in Peru by local artisans, while all the distressing and finishing details to the Queen size bed were done in our Old Plank restoration department. The beds finials are actually antique French finals we discovered in an old drawer. Our understanding is that the original bed was located in France and dates from the late 1600s and was discovered in the Dordogne region, (section in southwest France, between the Loire Valley and Pyrenees). Personally, we think the bed leans more Spanish Colonial, than French in style. The original bed’s history, best we can piecemeal together, is that it came from the Abbey of Chancelade, which was created circa 1129, where the Monks had chosen the rule of St. Augustine. The Chancelade abbey experienced rapid growth and after the two wars, the 100 Year and the War of Religion, only ruins remained. In 1614, Alain de Solminihac agreed to succeed his uncle, as Abbot Commendatory de Chancelade. After Alain was ordained, he moved to Chancelade and successfully began the restoration of the abbey, while completing his work by 1623. The local bishop in 1992 requested the Community of Saint-Victor, to operate the Abbey. In 1998 the restoration began in earnest.
