On a general rule of thumb in today’s marketplace in order to sell a Louis XVI style commode, one has to ebonize the finish, but not in this case. Our newest addition comes from the seacoast town of Boulogne-Sur-Mer, on the northern part of France and this chest is marked; STUMPFF (Jean Chrysostore) a registered Master cabinet-maker in 1766 with the JME hallmark. We carefully went through the structure of the cabinet and only fluffed up the old French polish exterior, as to try and make it look as though it was not touched. With beautiful never repaired Sainte Anne grey marble, this becomes one exquisite chest of drawers.
