Classic Antique French Demijohn c.1880-1900
Demijohn or Carboy, they both refer to the same glass container, although more commonly called "demijohn". Carboy originated from the Persian word; qarabah, while demijohn comes from the French; dame-jeanne, or Lady Jane and derives from circa 1700. Demijon's refer to any glass vessel, with a large body, capable of holding from 5 and 16 gallons of liquid, with a small neck and generally was encased in wicker.
