Circa 1780-1800 Magnificent and extremely rare pair of French bookcases. Our opinion is that these were built into a wall of a large home just outside of Nice, France. Upon closer inspection one can see that the fronts, sides, and locks (complete with their original keys) are all late 18th century, but the backs were probably replaced in the late 1800s. Handcrafted from solid cherry wood with an incredible deep and rich patination, it just does not get a whole lot better. We did have to repaint the interiors, but we used a correct 18th c French color. These would definitely anchor any size room. The measurements below include the crown. The bodies are 58.5" wide by 13.5" deep.
