Trunks have been around for several thousand years, beginning in China and were typically constructed with a wooden pine box, covered with some sort of decorative material. Many of the earliest trunks, including our Spanish trunk, were covered with studded leather hides and are similar to the furniture of the same period. The same companies who made the furniture, would also the same people who made the trunks. This is an exceptional example, of an authentic Spanish leather covered truck, that is over 300 years old, although we believe the barley twist base is from the 1800’s and would make a great coffee table, should one decide to separate the two? Note, it should be noted, that the backside of the trunk, was never covered in leather and nor was it ever have leather , because that is how they were done in the 1600 and 1700’s.
