Cigar store Indians appeared in the 1600s in Europe and were used by tobacconists. The American Cigar Store Indians, were used to advertise their tobacco business and came into popularity in states in the late 1700s. Cigar store Indians are now thought of as Folk Art and prices up to half-a-million have been realized. We have three different cigar store Indians that we will be listing on 1stdibs and although they appear to look like turn-of-the-century, we believe they are closer to being about 50 years old and have not been restored.
