Petrified Wood from Arizona

Petrified Wood from Arizona

Petrified Wood from Arizona
Simply put petrified wood is a huge crystal composed of almost solid quartz. Their variations of color originate from the impurities of the quartz primarily of iron, carbon, and manganese. The petrified forest in our southwest started about 211-218 million years ago, where trees and vegetation covered most of the area of Northeastern Arizona, this is until volcanic eruptions destroyed the forests and the trees were embedded into sediment. This particular specimen has spectacular color.
