Antique French formal library bookcase from the Restoration period, that slotted between the Empire and Louis Philippe time line of 1815-1830. This was a reaction against the monumental pomp of the Empire period, when furniture became less fancy, while still looking elegant. The French would call this bookcase, d’époque, meaning it was made during the Restoration period and not just of the style. The bookcase was restored with paint enhancement (fancy term dealers use for new paint), but it does have the right old paint patina about it and most importantly it functions as well today, as it did 200 years ago. The bookcase was found just north of Lyon in the small town of Villefranche sur Saône, France.
