c1900 French antique mahogany Empire style bookcase with a beautiful ebonized finish. The cabinet was completely disassembled and stripped to the bare wood; all joints were properly attended to and a labor intensive layer, by layer ebony color was applied. Mahogany by nature has a very fine grain pattern and by applying the stains in very thin coats all of the wood grain is still visible. We purposely left hints of brown peek through the black for a more authentic aged appearance, but you would have to look twice in order to notice. The hardware on the drawers is solid bronze and is quite unusual.
