Phenomenal in design, creation and in the finished product, too. This exquisite cabinet was designed by a very well respected design firm for installation on a NYC stairwell landing. Can you imagine? Completed 100% by our very own in-house Old Plank Craftsmen, this cabinet went from a simple drawing to this extraordinary showstopper. Constructed of solid mahogany with dovetailed joints, corner blocks and numerous other old world techniques, this cabinet is one of the very best handmade cabinets I have seen anywhere in quite some time. Every single nook and cranny on this cabinet is custom, we even made it modular so it could easily go in any elevator, through a narrow hallway or up and down stairs with ease.
The bronze castings are solid, not paper thin strips or plated metal; they are attached by a blind method and may be removed, repaired or replaced if ever need be. Painstaking as it was to construct this masterpiece, finishing it was no easy task. It took my expert finisher several days of sanding and staining and polishing between coats to get this finish to build, giving it the intense, deep, rich black finish shown here. Painting would have been much easier however, you lose the distinct tight grain of the mahogany by doing so; therefore ebonizing is much more time consuming and in our opinion, the more desirable way to go. Because this cabinet was custom, it could be re-designed as 4 doors, 6 doors or possibly even a pair of cabinets or cupboards.
Old Plank offers remarkable and outstanding quality like we expect in our very own homes.
