The story behind the Life Size Sheep - While Robin and I were leisurely walking throughout the Paris Flea Market, commonly referred to as the Puce, a very long time ago; sitting there before us, near the entrance to the Market, was a genuine Lalanne sheep, priced about $5000, it was way out of our budget, for we were just married. After all, who could have foreseen what a Francois-Xavier Lalanne made sheep would bring decades later. That Lalanne sheep became a pivotal moment in our lives, for ever since that faithful encounter, my wife has been on a personal mission to obtain a Lalanne sheep. Sadly, their values rose faster than our incomes. So, for decades, we have been searching for a sheep, made in the style of Lalanne’ s Sheep, that looked correct. However, there was always something askew, out of proportion, or just an intangible that you could not put your finger on, but you knew it was the wrong and the search continued for over 40 years. This particular Lalanne style sheep, was the one that hit all the marks, scale, facial appearance, scale and proportions. Our Lalanne style sheep is created from solid bronze and has a dark patina applied. The fur is real and available both in black or white and it is referred to as head cocked left version and there is also a head cocked right available through 1stdibs.
