Pair of Antique Dutch Chippendale Side Chairs

Pair of Antique Dutch Chippendale Side Chairs

Marked: N.V.Meubeleerinrichting and H. B. Middlebeek, Utrecht, which were associated with the highly regarded firm of Dietz, which was one of the very first Dutch mail order companies in existence. Growth was incredible, marketing home furnishings, bedding and such items to the upper middle class. By 1904 the Dietz Company had changed its name to de Phoenix and continued expanding successfully. Its company premises were located in Amsterdam's city center occupying over 900 square meters. Due to the economic depression of 1929, de Phoenix was forced to forever close its doors.

Please pay close attention to the greatly carved details on this magnificent pair of chairs. These sharp details showcase the exquisite claw wrapped ball feet, bell flowers accent the carved and pierced splat and extra carvings add a bit of extra glamour to the finely styled top rail. In all my years of antiquing, I have yet to see another one of these uniquely styled Chippendales. The Dutch craftsmen having been known for centuries for their masterful displays of marquetry work, have knocked the ball out of the park with this amazing pair of chairs. Classic construction of solid mahogany adorned with these many fine attributes, make these chairs the type to be passed on from one generation to the next.
