For years we have been searching for a proper size (without looking like a new out-of-scale reproduction from Asia) and “comfortable” Louis XVI dining chair. Finally, we came upon a beautiful set from the 1800s in the style of Jacob from Chateau de I’ Oise located in France. The bottom seat was just a little wider than normally one would expect and a smidge deeper and the back relaxed a few more degrees, that helped created the perfect Louis XVI chair. They sat so nice that we decided to copy the Louis XVI chairs; not by some automated machine overseas, but using old fashion techniques; like a wood chisel for carving by hand. Look at the radius carved corners of the bottom frames and if you look carefully, you will see that they are slightly different and all the edges have crisp carving marks, which is not what you would get by a machine-made chair. The connections are mortise and tenon. We offer the chairs from bare wood frames, to finished product, for I know many of you have your favorite upholstery shop and finisher. Lastly, should you have difficulty in finding the perfect color leather, no problem, just send in a color sample and we will color match exactly, just like Porsche has done for their clients for decades. **Seat height is 19.25" when upholstered. This fall we will be offering on 1stdibs a matching armchair as well.
