French Leather Club Chairs, circa 1920
We have been handling French leather club chairs for almost 25 years and you basically can place them into just a few categories. The “Classic” moustache or rounded back from the 1930’s which are almost always very comfortable. Next you have the petite club chair that better suits a woman which is generally a shade more upright and a bit firmer. Then after World War II we see the advent of foam rubber cushions that are nowhere near as comfortable and you have a tendency to sit on the chairs. Lastly there are the early French club chairs c1920’s that typically have velvet or mohair seat cushions filled with real down and regardless of your physical stature; you will fit like a glove. Because of their extra depth you sit deep into the chair and if you are not too careful you will find yourself snoozing off within minutes. These have always been my personal favorites and are by far the most difficult to locate and almost impossible to find a great pair in their original leather. Here we have about as good an original pair of pre-1930’s club chairs as you is ever likely to see and only the internals have been restored. We disassembled each chair and every coil spring has been re-tied eight ways by hand and the padding has been stuffed with real horse hair where required while nothing is left unattended to.
**Seat height is 17"
