Oustanding antique Directoire style settee with original paint and gilding. The rectilinear back has gilded foliage relief and the high sides terminate in scrolled ends which are highlighted with gilded rosettes. This detail is repeated in the lozenge insets of the die joints and a gilded sunflower adorns the seat rail.  The carved legs and columns also have gilded detail. Two armchairs and two side chairs from the same set are also available. France circa 1900
