Description
A Louis XIV Aubusson tapestry featuring exquisite craftsmanship and design. Fully restored in France, this tapestry has a beautiful alentour border of floral bouquets and urns. The center depicts hunters on horseback in pursuit of mythological animals in a forest. The top of the tapestry is accented by a heraldic crest. This is a very special tapestry and came to us from the Ingersoll-Rand estate. Circa 1675-1725, France. Aubusson tapestries and textiles are of great quality and craftsmanship. Founded in France near the province of Marche, the Aubusson factory, which is recognized for its superb textiles, dates back to the 15th century. The tapestry is typical of the period due to the use of dark colors and figural imagery. It is rare to find an original tapestry of this size in such excellent condition.
