Kum Kapi Silk Rug

This beautiful rug is 100% silk. It is believed to be one of a series of rugs made by Zareh in Istanbul, Turkey. This series of rugs was inspired by the so-called Top Kapi Rug which can be found in the Top Kapi Museum as part of the Imperial Collection.  These rugs originated in iran during the Safaid period and were later of Turkish manufacture. The design is commonly known as the "sultan's head". Turkey, circa 1910
