Impressive and extravagant vintage '40s buffet made from a mix of French hardwoods including walnut, mahogany and flame mahogany. The book-matched marble top is banded and is inset though not flush in the overhung mahogany top which has a vertical 3-bead astragal edge. The two center doors, which are flanked by curved and scooped side doors, display a beautifully carved pastoral scene of the shepheard with his muse. Behind the doors can be seen an exquisite finished interior with banded shelves.  The whole piece rests on a carved plinth with flared base decorated with flowing fabric entwining wheat, foliage and flowers. With its mere scale, and with some modification this would make an exquisite one of a kind bar. This buffet exhibits many Art Deco influences and was probably made for an exposition, a signature has yet to be found. France circa 1940
