Description
A Renaissance Revival (Henri II) ornately carved walnut hutch with original wavy glass doors. The arched broken pediment is centered by a scallop shell resting atop a pedestal with gem-cut carving flanked by scrolling foliage. Recessed panels with hanging and draping banners and scrollwork adorn the frieze. Flared leaf and hanging bellflowers are detailed on carved volutes in the frieze. Fluted baluster-form columns center the glass doors, which open to reveal shelving space. Repeated bellflowers and acanthus leaves are featured on the center banding. The lower open stage is supported on baluster-form columns. The recessed interior is carved with a gem-cut panel and set by shell and floral imagery. Gadrooned lower drawers with hanging finial pulls rest above two lower stage doors with repeated gem-cut panels and swaged drapery. The stepped and cornered plinth rests above flattened bun feet. Circa 1875, France.
