Description
Museum quality Louis XVI fruitwood canapé upholstered with its original Aubusson tapestry. This wonderfully restored settee features an oval backrest with channeled framing above padded and fluted armrests. The Aubusson, with its pastoral and figurative scene, is in excellent condition and padded with new horsehair padding. The settee rests on fluted, tapered legs. Circa 1770, France. **Founded in France near the province of Marche, the Aubusson factory is recognized globally for its superb textiles, which date back to the 15th century. The tapestry used on this canapé is typical of the 18th century. It is rare to find the original upholstery such as this, in breathtakingly extraordinary condition.
