Description
This spectacular vintage Italian carved and gilded buffet with stunning eglomise panelled center doors is totally original and unrestored. There are no cracks or damage to the eglomise, which after 60 plus years, is a feat in itself. If you look closely you can see the intricate gold leaf detailing on the beautiful oak carcass. Verre Eglomise: A process of decorating glass by drawing and painting on the reverse then backing the decoration with metal foil, generally gold or silver leaf. Eglomise was named after Jean-Baptiste Glomy (d. 1786), who rediscovered rather than invented the technique. The technique, also known as verre eglomise, has been in decline since the Victorian days, but through the dedicated work of Frances Binnington, has achieved something of a revival. The entire staff here at Old Plank Road has a special appreciation for eglomise and the highly skilled craftsmanship required to do it. Italy circa 1940
