Eighteenth Century Primitive Antique French Elm and Cherry Bench or Settee

Outstanding antique French settee, constructed of beautiful elm and cherry woods. It probably originally had a rush seat that wore out, then somebody took what appears to be old tongue and groove floorboards to make a seat, padded it with horsehair and upholstered the seat with leather (we know this because there are tiny remnants under the nails). Our own in-house restoration department completely disassembled this work of art, cleaned, strengthened and re-glued its entire structure. Marvelous utilized many places, benches such as this are few and far between. Seat height is 16.5". France, 17th Century
